CADILLAC — The City of Cadillac is clearing debris following a severe ice storm that caused significant damage to trees on both public and private property. A temporary drop-off location for storm-related wood debris will open on Monday, March 23, to assist residents before the official start of the city’s annual yard waste program.

Public Works crews are currently working to remove debris from sidewalks, rights-of-way and other public areas while weather conditions allow. The cleanup effort addresses widespread damage throughout the community caused by ice accumulation earlier this week.
The drop-off location will accept brush and logs, but the city will not accept bags, dirt or building materials. Residents using this service must be able to unload their own debris without assistance from city staff.
Republic, the refuse hauler for the city, will manage the routine yard waste collection starting on April 1. This service occurs weekly on scheduled garbage days through the last week of November or until the first snowfall of the season.
Under the annual program, residents must place yard waste in designated paper bags purchased from local hardware or grocery stores. Alternatively, grass clippings and limbs may be placed in waste cans specifically marked “yard waste.” Regulations prohibit mixing yard waste with regular household trash for collection.
Collection rules for the Republic program specify that bags and bundles must not exceed 30 pounds. Residents are limited to a maximum of 10 bags or bundles per week. Specific size requirements apply to branches and bundles scheduled for pickup. Branches must be less than four inches in diameter and less than four feet in length. Each bundle must be less than 20 inches in diameter to be eligible for collection.
The annual yard waste program begins on April 1 and will continue through the end of November. Scheduled weekly pickups will proceed as long as weather conditions allow for collection before the first snow.
