Isabella Co. man convicted for running down and killing fiancee’s ex

ISABELLA COUNTY — An Isabella County man has been convicted for running over his fiancée’s ex with his truck last year while the man was on a dirt bike, killing him.

Isabella County prosecutor David Barberi said Allen Sprague was convicted by jury of all five charges he was facing – second degree murder, reckless driving causing death, leaving the scene of an accident-causing death, assault with intent to murder and felonious assault.

Barberi said Sprague started chasing Dylon Andras, also of Lake, and another man who had driven onto his property in the early morning hours of Oct. 25 of last year.

He said the two men on dirt bikes were revving their engines when Sprague decided to give chase, at speeds in excess up to 90 mph, running Andras down on West Stevenson Lake Road near Brinton Road in Coldwater Township, killing him at the scene.

Barberi said Sprague then took off but returned to the scene and tried to run over the other man.

That man was not injured.

He said Sprague and Andras were in a dispute involving a breakup.

“It appears as though it’s a crime of jealousy, passion and, it’s unfortunate that it costs him his life,” said Barberi.

Sentencing is set for Dec. 20, but Barberi said the date will likely get pushed up. Sprague is facing life in prison.

“This case is over a year old, and I’m just happy for the family that they are finally able to have an opportunity to begin the healing process. And some justice has been solid for Dylon and his family. They’ll have an opportunity to weigh in on what they think is an appropriate outcome and appropriate sentence,” said Barberi.

Barberi said the fiancee, who was in the truck at the time, is not expected to be charged.

Sprague had tried to convince the jury that the fiancee was driving, but Barberi said there was no evidence to corroborate that and the jury was unconvinced.
