TRAVERSE CITY — Getting around just got a little easier in Traverse City, with the earlier than planned completion of the Grandview parkway, East Front Street Project.
“The last time this road was reconstructed was 1968. So, it’s time,” says Brad Wieferich MDOT director.
There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony with leaders from local government and the Michigan Department of Transportation. The ceremony was held to thank the community for their partnership to get the job done.
The project was slated to be finished up next month, but it was mostly finished last week. The new construction includes more sidewalk access and a cross walk at the corner of Grandview and Front Street to create walking access to downtown. MDOT’S director reflects on what it is like to see another major Michigan road project complete.
“Tell you what, this project is amazing. And you know, when I come to these sorts of events, the successful projects that I see are the ones that have very tight community partnerships that have evolved for us to make sure that we’re doing it in the most effective and efficient way and making sure that we’re addressing all users of the roadway,” says Wieferich.
While the main construction is completed, there may still be a few lane closures for finishing touches.
