ANN ARBOR - Oregon State University has hired Michigan assistant Justin Joyner as its next head coach. Joyner replaces Wayne Tinkle, who led the program for 12 seasons before he was let go.

Joyner arrives in Corvallis after two seasons under head coach Dusty May at the University of Michigan, where he helped lead a significant turnaround. The Wolverines finished with a 27-10 record and a Sweet 16 appearance last year after going eight-24 the season before Joyner and May arrived.

The Wolverines have continued their success during the current season, posting a 29-two record. Michigan secured the outright Big Ten regular-season title by four games and is currently trending toward a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Before his tenure at Michigan, Joyner spent seven seasons at Saint Mary’s working under head coach Randy Bennett. During his time in Moraga, the Gaels achieved a 171-60 record and made four NCAA tournament appearances. Joyner is a California native who played college basketball at UC Santa Barbara.

Tinkle led the Oregon State program for 12 seasons, which included two NCAA tournament appearances. His most notable achievement with the Beavers was a run to the Elite Eight in 2021.
