Boyne City’s Kuhn strikes gold in mixed aerials event

MILAN - Boyne City native Kaila Kuhn finished fifth in the women’s individual freestyle aerial skiing event, just missing the podium. Today Kuhn was back in action in mixed aerials, and would not only achieve her goal, but achieve some history in the process.

With a final combined score of 325.35 the Americans, led by Kuhn, took home gold. With the win they claimed the 11th gold medal for the U.S. over the course of the games, setting the all-time record that has stood since 2002.

Kaila Kuhn opened with a back-full-full-full and scored 106.89 in the qualifying round. Scores would then reset, and Kuhn aced her second jump as well, scoring a 94.44. As a team the United States landed six straight clean jumps across qualifying and finals which gave them the win.

It is Kuhn’s first Olympic medal in her second trip to the games at just 22 years old.
