KINGSLEY - The Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association has named Mitch Miggenburg the Region Two Athletic Director of the Year. Miggenburg currently serves as the athletic director at Kingsley Area Schools.
The honor recognizes Miggenburg for outstanding leadership, dedication, and contributions to interscholastic athletics. He has led the Kingsley athletic department since 2014, following a coaching career in South Carolina.
Under Miggenburg’s leadership, Kingsley Area Schools was recognized as the Traverse City Record-Eagle Athletic School of the Year in 2018. The district also earned the Northwest Conference All-Sports Award five times between 2014 and 2023. This period has been characterized by sustained competitive success and increased postseason appearances.
Miggenburg has worked in education-based athletics for more than 20 years. He began his coaching career in South Carolina as a varsity assistant baseball coach at R.B. Stall High School in 2002. He later coached at Academic Magnet High School from 2003 to 2004 before serving as the varsity head baseball coach there during the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
In 2007, Miggenburg joined West Ashley High School in Charleston, S.C. During a seven-year tenure, he taught physical education and health sciences while coaching varsity baseball and football. He received several honors in 2014, including South Carolina AAAA State Coach of the Year and the Charleston Post & Courier Lowcountry Coach of the Year. He was also named the South Carolina Region VII Coach of the Year in both 2013 and 2014.
Miggenburg is a graduate of New Palestine High School and played collegiate baseball at the University of Evansville and the College of Charleston. He holds a Bachelor of Science in physical education and exercise science and a Master of Arts in teaching from The Citadel. He currently serves as the secretary of the Northern Shores Conference and is a member of the MIAAA and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
