Ferris State STUNT team makes historic debut with two victories

BIG RAPIDS — The Ferris State STUNT team won two matches during its historic varsity debut Sunday at Jim Wink Arena. The Bulldogs recorded a 22-0 shutout against the University of Michigan and a 31-13 victory over Northern Kentucky University.

The event served as the first regular-season competition for Ferris State since becoming an official varsity-level program. The contests were part of the university’s “Pink Out” Tournament, which featured the fast-paced, head-to-head STUNT format.

The team is the newest addition to the Ferris State Athletics department and consists of 36 student-athletes. The roster is heavily composed of first-year students, including 25 freshmen.

Head coach Perrmella Harris leads the new program and its coaching staff. Harris noted that the team has built its foundation from the beginning of the program’s development.“I am so extremely proud of this team. We literally started from zero, from ground zero, and they embraced everything that my coaching staff and I have given to them, and I could not be prouder,” Harris said. “They continue to want to be better, and you’re just going to see more greatness from them because of their attitudes and because of who they are as athletes.”

Ferris State will travel to Hammond, Ind., for its next event on Saturday, Feb. 14. The Bulldogs are scheduled to compete in a competition hosted at Purdue University-Northwest.
