MOUNT PLEASANT — James DeCosemo has been appointed as the new head women’s soccer coach at Central Michigan University.
DeCosemo brings a wealth of experience in collegiate coaching, particularly within the state of Michigan, where he has held various coaching positions. His track record includes a successful tenure at Aquinas College, where he led the team to a 55-5-7 overall record and multiple Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference championships.
“We believe that James is a leader that can help us achieve success in the Mid-American Conference,” Athletic Director Amy Folan said. “He is a players’ coach who has had success everywhere he’s been.”
DeCosemo’s coaching career in Michigan includes roles as an assistant coach at Western Michigan, where he contributed to the team’s sweep of the Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament titles in 2025. He has also served as an assistant coach for the Aquinas men’s team and the Saginaw Valley State women’s team.
As a player, DeCosemo was a standout at Northwood University, earning all-conference and United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors, and leading his team to the NCAA Midwest Regional Final in his senior season. He also played semi-professional soccer for Lansing United and Grand Rapids FC.In addition to his collegiate coaching roles, DeCosemo has been the Director of Coaching for Nationals Capital Area Soccer club in Lansing since 2016, further establishing his connections within the Michigan soccer community.
DeCosemo expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, highlighting the attractive soccer facilities at Central Michigan and the supportive community in Mount Pleasant as key factors in drawing high-level players to the program. “Our goal is to build Central Michigan into a destination for Michigan players that want to play high-level soccer,” he said.
