BIG RAPIDS- More details are emerging after Ferris State Basketball head coach Bobby Pietrack resigned late last month, before even coaching a single game for the Bulldogs.
Ferris State hired Pietrack to succeed Andy Bronkema, who is now the head coach for CMU, in early May.
When Pietrack left the Crimson and Golf on September 26th, he released a statement sharing that his resignation was due to personal health reasons.
However, on Monday, the Durango Herald Newspaper in Colorado published an exposé on Pietrack, leveling allegations of bullying and the use of sexual and racial slurs during his tenure as head men’s basketball coach at Fort Lewis College in Colorado.
The article asserts Pietrack resigned from his position at Fort Lewis last year after an assistant coach brought some of the evidence to light. It also claims Pietrack resigned from Ferris State just one day after the Durango Herald reached out to him for comment.
It is unknown whether Ferris State University had any knowledge of the allegations during the hiring process. Dave Murray, Ferris State Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications, said in a statement Tuesday, “It would be inappropriate for me to discuss personnel issues”.
Former assistant Alex Fodness will serve as the Bulldogs’ interim head coach for the upcoming season before a national search for a new head coach begins.
