LELAND- The Leland girls soccer team was one of the strongest in the area last year, they finished 16-3-2 and advanced to the district final where they fell to Elk Rapids.
The Comets only lost three seniors from last year and are looking forward trying to improve upon that finish. They’ve been held to entirely indoor practices thus far but are confident in their preparation and ability.
“Most of us have played since elementary school together, so we’ve grown up together. We know each other. We can read each other on the field so well that it’s really exciting and we’re looking good and strong” (Emerie Burda, senior, defense).
“We focus on fundamentals anyway. So, I think it’s a it’s a good start to get inside the balls really quick in here. So hopefully it’s it’s it’s honing our foot skills and we’re getting some some good practice out of it.
As long as, you know, we’re getting reps in during practice and keeping, you know, the mood positive, you know, we should be all right. So, I you know, we’re expecting to pick up right where we left off on. We kind of left some cool stuff hanging in the district last year and we’re looking to get it back” (Joe Burda, head coach).
Leland begins their season April 11th against Elk Rapids.
