Travis and River Moore are two athletes from the Glen Lake area who are now making noise on the national stage.
They each played sports growing up; Travis even played baseball for Florida Southern. But after college, they were seeking something that would reignite their passion for competition and pushing themselves to the limit.
“Before we were just making up our own workouts, we’d go to the gym and make up lifting and stuff,” Travis said. “We finally have done a program that started as like 2 hours a day, and then that became three hours a day and four hours a day. It was like every day, five days a week, for our training to build up to. I mean, I would say we’re in the gym for 4 hours a day.”
They were introduced to CrossFit in high school and have now gone all in and have been extremely successful. They travel the country competing in different CrossFit events and wouldn’t have it any other way.
“That’s how I met my girlfriend to do the gym, so that’s awesome,” Travis said. “Then training with my brother like we did. All three of us want to throw it out and just push each other super hard. We’re all in the gym together. And then on top of that, a lot of our friends are in the gym. They go to the gym, the classes, and work out with us. So we’ll work out with a bunch of people in the classes. That’s where we make like a lot of friends in the gym, and we love doing that.”
They’ve rapidly risen both individually and as a team to the top of their class and were able to qualify for the second most prestigious CrossFit competition in the country. The Wodapalooza.
“They post a workout each we all put our scores in. Then, if your scores were good enough for your team through the gym, you would qualify,” Travis said. “But they put that up for the West and East parts of America. So, we made the top 30, I think we were what, 27? So, we were just under the line for that.”
It’s a lot of dedication and effort that goes into their training and travel. But to the pair, there’s nothing more rewarding.
“It’s a mental game for sure. When you’re like in the pain and you’ve got to push through, but once you get there, you feel so good after you do the hard work out,” Travis said
River Moore said being a competitive person also helps.
“We love competing for just having fun, going out there, competing with each other, that’s our favorite thing, and just wanting to be the best,” Travis said. “It’s tough to do those workouts. That’s like a 30-minute workout that you’re going through. You’re like, ‘Gosh, why am I doing that after you feel so good?’”
The next competition sees them heading to California for the Northern California Classic. But even with all the travel and strenuous exercise, they like to keep the main thing, the main thing.
“When we’re doing our (competitions) and always glorifying God because he’s given us the opportunity to come out here,” Travis said. “We’re just spreading the word of God while we’re doing it, because he’s the one that is letting us go out there and to be doing what we love and gave us our bodies, though we just try showing how God’s working in us.”
