LSSU ready for first ever Elite 8 appearance

LAKE SUPERIOR STATE- The Lake Superior State men’s basketball team continues to make serious noise in the NCAA Division 2 tournament.

Despite losing to Northern Michigan University by 16 points in the GLIAC Championship game, the Lakers found a way to put that loss behind them and play some of their best basketball in the tournament.

They’ve not advanced to the Elite 8 for the first time in program history. Coach Steve Hettinga is in his 18th season as head coach and has his guys ready. They play an excellent Dallas Baptist team in Evansville on March 24th and are feeling confident with how well they’re playing.

” I think our defensive playing, and Coach Ramos, has done a great job in preparing our guys defensively in sustaining the other team’s best players which have done a really good job all three games” (Steve Hettinga, head coach).

“We try to make it more defensive into offense. But sometimes our offense gets our defensive going. We are hitting shots, making good plays, making the right pass, but we would rather have our defense turn into offense” (Tyson Edmonson, senior guard).

Edmonson was selected the 2025 Midwest Regional Tournament ‘MVP’ after averaging 25 points per game.
