Petoskey baseball seeks to reach ‘next level’ after trip to quarterfinals last year

PETOSKEY- Petoskey baseball has been a powerhouse in recent years, and seems to only be getting better. They finished last year with a 27-14 record, advancing all the way to the quarterfinals before falling to Spring Lake by a score of 11-5.

In the past four seasons the Northmen have ended in the regional semifinal, the regional final twice, and most recently the trip to the quarters, and the mission for head coach Shawn Ragicnol and his veteran team he brings into 2025 is to take yet another step further.

“You know, I’ve been in this for quite a while. And when you have a group that returning a few players, you can take it a step further with a lot of things. And that’s kind of where we’re at right now. Obviously, everyone is looking at the weather and waiting on mother nature to cooperate.

It’s a, a great community that really supports our game. So, the way that they get behind baseball mean we we owe it to them to stay connected and be ready to go when it’s time” (Shawn Racignol).

Senior centerfielder Haden Janes repeated the sentiment.

“Everyone in this program loves compete. We love to win. We don’t take lightly at all. It’s just great to have a winning culture. And it’s something we’ve built over years and years.

It’s just about getting next level, like we raised up our last year. We’re ready to do it again. We got a lot of pieces coming back, we had a lot of experience. We’re going to make smart plays, and we’re not going to be rattled big time situations. It’s just really about keep, keep building” (Haden Janes).
