Ferris State men’s squad begins March Madness campaign against UMSL

BIG RAPIDS - The Ferris State men’s basketball team will open up their NCAA tournament campaign on Saturday in Springfield, Illinois. The Bulldogs are the number 5 seed in the Midwest Regional, they’ll take on the 4 seed University of Missouri St. Louis. The 2 squads last met 2 years ago with UMSL getting a win in the playoffs. This is Ferris State’s 9th appearance in March Madness in the last 11 years, the Bulldogs have had recent success, making 3 trips to the sweet 16 and 2 trips to the elite 8.

Head coach Andy Bronkema wants his guys to make the most of the opportunity.

“You don’t want to take it for granted so, we don’t. It’s a very cool opportunity, you know, planning the trip and having some more time together. It also falls on spring break, so they don’t have to worry about school. They can just really concentrate on basketball for this week and enjoy this experience together. So it’s part fun, it’s part business trip.” said coach Bronkema.

The Bulldogs will tip off against UMSL at 8:30 Saturday night.
