Traverse City Central carves way to D1 State Title, last won in 2022

TRAVERSE CITY- Skiers from across the state made their way to Nub’s Nob Monday to carve up some powder and try to bring home individual and state championships.

The team title in Division 1 has run through Traverse City for the last four seasons, won by either T.C. West or Central every year in that time frame. Central’s last had come in 2022, but led by Quinn Gerber, the Trojans ended the day Monday able to call themselves the best in the state. Gerber put up a lightning-fast combined time of 54.18 in the giant slalom, securing her an individual championship, and the team ended the day 33 points better than second place West to bring home the team title.

“Well, we knew we could win, we just like had to perform on that day. So, it was like a thought, but we didn’t want to get too ahead of ourselves” (Quinn Gerber, Junior).

“We knew we could do it, but we just had to go out and ski smart, and the girls did that. That afternoon, the girls were just dialed in and skied so well.

To be able to bring home the trophy to the school, so proud of these girls, these girls who are my seniors now going to graduate being state champions. I finally have a state championship with my daughter which is kind of icing on the cake for my career as well” (Amy Kudary, head coach).

Gerber also said she hopes to continue the team’s success in her senior season and make it back-to-back.
