BUCKLEY - Last week, Buckley’s Landon Kulawiak scored 33 points in the Bears’ final regular-season game, giving him exactly 2,000 points scored in his career.
But that is just one of many accomplishments and records Kulawiak holds. He’s the leading scorer in Buckley history by over 900 points and is now fourth in Northwest Conference scoring history through eight fewer games than anyone on the list ahead of him. To add to that, Landon is now 12th on the all-time 3-pointers-made list.
Todd Kulawiak is the principle at Buckley, and now his son - who served as a manger during Buckley’s run to the finals in 2017 - has a chance to claim his second straight District title and make a run of his own with his team.
“The first thing that he had in his hand was a basketball,” Todd Kulawiak said. “His first word wasn’t a one syllable word. It was bas-ket-ball. He works hard at it; to watch him the last four years grow into the player; the man he is has been astonishing.”
Landon Kulawiak is happy he hit the 2,000-point mark in the regular season.
“I kind of wanted to have it off my mind before I got into Districts. So, performing and having my teammates, you know, help me get to that milestone, it’s ... an amazing feeling to actually hit it the day before. It’s been definitely a team effort and getting me there. You know, that’s the biggest thing is that ... we’re all a family. We all create for each other. We want the biggest outcome for each other, knowing that we’re a family and that we can motivate each other; I really think we can ... win back-to-back years and hold up a District trophy again,” he said.
After his high school career is over, Landon hopes to play college basketball.
