TRAVERSE CITY- Ten teams made their way to Traverse City St. Francis today for the 3rd annual Northern Michigan showcase, one of those being Wayne Memorial, a 15-2 team ranked 11th in Division 1. They took on the 14-2 Traverse City West Titans.
The Zebras got out ahead early and despite some West pushes, they would hold on to win this one 69-60.
It’s the third year this showcase has been held, and third year Wayne Memorial has been a part of it, and I asked head coach Steve Brooks what keeps them coming back.
“Well, we love Traverse City man, Coach Finnegan is a great host up here, we actually come for a shoutout in the summer as well. It’s just a great chance for our kids to see up north man, and the beautiful lake and things like that, so we love coming here. We needed to see a team like this, it’s a different style than what we (normally) see, so we’re glad” (Brooks).
