The NFL playoffs are over for the Detroit Lions after just one game.
Five turnovers, including three interceptions by quarterback Jared Goff, doomed the Lions in a 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders Saturday night at Ford Field.
Jahmyr Gibbs opened the scoring for Detroit with a short touchdown run midway through the first quarter.
Washington’s first score of the game came on the next drive on a 47-yard field goal to make it 7-3.
The Commanders took the lead thanks to a touchdown off a Jared Goff turnover to make it 10-7.
Detroit responded on their next drive as Goff engineered a touchdown to Sam LaPorta who made a nice endzone grab to make it 14-10.
Washington however kept the offensive shootout going as Jayden Daniels found Terry McLaurin scampered for the endzone to push the Commanders back in front 17-14.
They extended the lead on a pick six from Jared Goff to make it 24-14.
Goff briefly went it the locker room following a rough hit and, Jameson Williams flew down the field for a 61 yard touchdown to pull Detroit to within 3 at 24-21.
But the Washington offense kept rolling as Daniels found Zach Ertz to make it 31-21.
That would be the score at halftime, but Detroit engineered a long opening drive in the third quarter to pull to within 31-28.
But Washington kept their pad, engineering a long drive of their own to extend their lead to 38-28.
Washington picked off a Jameson Williams pass on a trick play that gave the Commanders the ball back with 12 minutes to play.
And they would take advantage, scoring another touchdown going up 45-28.
A Jake Bates field goal made it 45-31 with 5:01 to play, and that was it for the scoring.
Detroit is now 0-4 all time against Washington in the playoffs.
