TC Central grad Josh Burnham to play in National Championship for Notre Dame

TRAVERSE CITY- Notre Dame football took home a thrilling win Thursday night in the Orange Bowl, thanks in part to some timely defense.

Part of that defense includes Traverse City native Josh Burnham, who will now be starting for the Irish defense in the National Championship game.

Burnham graduated from Traverse City Central High School, where he helped the Trojans reach the semis in 2020, and the State Championship game in 2021.

Josh’s coach and current Traverse City Central head coach Eric Schugars is the least bit surprised by Josh’s success.

“When we talk to our players about, you know, the standards of excellence in Trojan football, what that’s about, we point to guys like Josh Burnham. He exemplifies everything we want in a young man. You know, hard worker, humble person, high character person. And he invests in others you know,” he said.

“And then to see him play at the highest level, (to) have a chance to play in the national championship. I mean, that is, that’s a testament to him. And it’s exciting to know that we were part of that foundation here at Traverse City Central,” he continued.

Josh and Notre Dame will take on Ohio State in the National Championship on Jan. 20.
