ELK RAPIDS-- The Elk Rapids Boys basketball team had lost in the district final for three straight seasons up until last year, when they took home the crown before falling to Menominee in the regional finals.
The Elks finished the year with 19 wins, but graduated five seniors, and lost another starter to an off-season injury coming into this year.
It may be an entirely fresh five for head coach Kevin Ball, but he remains excited about the future.
“We used last year as far as the success that we had... you know, as a program, to try to motivate us even more, you know, to everyone by every level, you know, so that we should be competing for conference and district championships year in and year out.
So, our goal is to be playing the best in February. So hopefully we can make a run this year and maybe get back to where we were last year” (Kevin Ball, Head Coach).
Keegan Cotterman, a senior forward on the team, is also confident in the potential in this team.
“I think we’re still learning. We haven’t all played together in a while, but once it gets there, like I said, I don’t think anybody stopping us” (Keegan Cotterman, Senior Forward).
The Elks are 1-2 to start this year and will next play at home against Kalkaska on December 13th.
