Elk Rapids girls seeking to replicate last year's success

ELK RAPIDS-- The Elk Rapids girls are 1-2 to start this season, but they’re coming off a trip to the quarterfinals where they fell to Lake City last year.

It’s the second straight year that’s culminated in a trip to the Elite Eight for the Elks, and although they graduated three members of that team, head coach Mike Brown likes what he has this year, and says the standard has been set for the program.

“We’re always around family first and, you know, making sure you’re taking care of your grades and doing good in school. So, you know, the bar has been reset for girls’ basketball at Elk Rapids. And, you know, we’re going to hold to that standard”.

He also knows that the newer girls will need some time to build their confidence.

You know there’s 30 points we got to replace you know 20 rebounds that we got to replace. So, everybody’s got to really kind of fill that new role. Right now, they’re cutting their teeth and they’re getting used to it. But by the end of February and March when we’re playing some pretty meaningful games, hopefully they’ll have, I think they’ll have that experience, they’ll have a little more confidence” (Mike Brown, Head Coach).

The team is hungry to match that standard or even surpass it.

They next play December 12th at Kalkaska.
