MASON COUNTY — A former Mason County Eastern High School paraprofessional faces four felony charges following an investigation into an inappropriate relationship with a student.
According to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Tanya Schram, 33, of Custer, was arrested March 19 after authorities alleged she engaged in child sexually abusive activity and used a computer to commit a crime.
The sheriff’s office began a criminal investigation on Nov. 12, 2025, after a student reported the relationship to a school resource officer. School officials terminated Schram immediately after being notified of the matter by the deputy.
Schram is charged with two counts of child sexually abusive activity and two counts of computer use to commit a crime. Each count of child sexually abusive activity is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $100,000. The computer-related charges also carry a maximum sentence of 20 years and a $20,000 fine.
Investigators reported that the case involved photographs exchanged between Schram and the student through a social media platform.
During interviews, the school resource officer learned the alleged incidents occurred several times throughout the summer and the early portion of the 2025 school year.
The initial information provided to the school resource officer identified the staff member involved but did not identify the student. Several days after the first report, two other Mason County Eastern students approached the officer to provide the name of a student believed to be involved in the relationship.
Following her arrest on March 19, Schram was lodged in the Mason County Jail. She was later released after posting a $10,000 10% bond.
