INTERLOCHEN — Rockin Resale in Interlochen is providing the community with affordable goods while donating proceeds to support a local food and baby pantry at Redeemer Lutheran Church. The shop opened to address a local need for quality products at fair prices. In addition to selling items, the business serves as a donation center where community members can contribute goods to help their neighbors in need.
Rockin Resale features a mix of new goods and donated items, including collectibles, antiques, furniture and lamps. Cindy Sundell is one of the shop’s co-owners and described the experience of shopping at the store as a rewarding search for unique items. “The thrill of the hunt,” Sundell said. “Finding something at a really good price. And every now and then you like our customers. You find a treasure every now and then.”
Beyond retail, the shop maintains a close partnership with Redeemer Church. Every month, the owners hand-deliver a donation to the church to support its food and baby pantry. “Every month in the month, the first week of the next month, we take a check over there and meet with the pastor and the fella, Bob, who runs the food pantry and drop off a check for him,” co-owner Jim Zeh said.
The business encourages local residents to participate in the cycle of giving by accepting donations at the back of the facility. To thank those who contribute, the shop offers an incentive for future purchases. Donors who drop off items at the back of the store receive a 10% coupon that can be used for any item in the shop.
Jim and Cindy started the business with a focus on community service. They noted that the shop has been busy since its first day of operation and that customers frequently express appreciation for the facility. “We did it because we know there’s a need in this community for good products at fair prices,” Cindy said. “It’s very important to Jim and I to pay it forward.”
The owners noted they are already seeing an increase in donations as the spring season approaches. They plan to continue their monthly check deliveries to the Redeemer Lutheran Church pantry as the business grows.
