TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse County and City of Traverse City government offices will delay opening until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026. The adjustment to operations is due to inclement weather expected to begin on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Officials announced the delay as a precautionary measure to allow road conditions to improve for residents and employees. While government offices will have a late start, emergency services and road maintenance operations will continue as normal.

Sarah Lutz, acting city manager for Traverse City and Nate Alger, Grand Traverse County administrator, issued the joint announcement on Friday, March 13, 2026. While administrative buildings will remain closed Monday morning, road crews will continue working to monitor conditions and maintain safe travel routes. Law enforcement, fire and emergency medical personnel also remain on duty.

The pending winter storm has also impacted local library services. The Traverse Area District Library main branch at 610 Woodmere Avenue will be closed on Sunday, March 15, 2026. All other district library locations are regularly closed on Sundays.

Library Director Michele P. Howard encouraged community members to visit the library before the weather worsens. Howard noted that early notification allows patrons to prepare for time at home.

“We’re hoping that by making this announcement early people can come get library materials while it’s safe to travel and then be able to enjoy them at home as roads get more hazardous,” Howard said. “Of course, we also encourage cardholders to use TADL digital services any time!”

City and county officials urged residents to limit non-essential travel until conditions improve. Community members are encouraged to stay informed of weather conditions and allow extra time if travel is necessary. Updates regarding city and county operations will be shared through official government websites and social media channels.

The library will extend due dates for any items affected by the Sunday closure. TADL cardholders are encouraged to check the library’s website on Monday morning for any additional service hour impacts that may result from the winter storm.
