MACKINAC BRIDGE — The Mackinac Bridge is back open to all traffic after severe weather conditions in the Straits area closed it for much of Friday afternoon.
The Mackinac Bridge Authority is monitoring weather patterns at various points across the nearly five-mile suspension bridge. While falling ice often causes winter closures on the span, officials confirmed that overall weather conditions necessitated the previous shutdown.
Official updates for the Straits area are available via local radio. Travelers are encouraged to tune to AM radio 530 or 1610 for the latest information regarding the bridge status.
The bridge authority also offers a mobile notification service for real-time reopening updates. Motorists can text the keyword “MacBridge” to 67283 to receive a text message once the bridge is cleared to resume traffic.
