LANSING — Michigan is expected to receive more than 1.8 billion dollars from national opioid settlements by 2040, with half going to the State of Michigan Opioid Healing and Recovery Fund and the other half going directly to local governments.

Officials said that money will help widen access to naloxone as the state works to prevent more overdose deaths.

“Naloxone has played a critical role in the state’s decline in overdose deaths, including a 35% decrease since 2023,” said Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, chief medical executive.

Since 2020, Michigan has distributed more than $1.7 million in naloxone kits and recorded more than 34,000 overdose reversals.

Naloxone can be found at local offices for free across Michigan.
