LANSING — The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is offering new grant funding to expand preventive health screenings for firefighters across the state.

The funding is aimed at helping qualified organizations provide mobile, on-site, or local clinic-based screenings focused on the early detection of occupational illnesses in active, full-time Michigan firefighters.

State health officials say firefighters face a higher risk of serious health conditions because of the hazardous exposures they encounter on the job.
