Sgt. Jonathan Morrison promoted at Michigan State Police St. Ignace post

ST. IGNACE — The Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post has announced the promotion of Sgt. Jonathan Morrison. Morrison, who joined the department in 2014, previously served as a trooper and detective in the region.

Morrison began his career at the St. Ignace Post after graduating from the 127th Trooper Recruit School. He is recognized by the department as a trusted resource for fellow state police members and partner law enforcement agencies.

Morrison grew up in Pickford and joined the United States Air Force following his high school graduation. He served in the military for four years before earning a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Lake Superior State University.

The sergeant enlisted with the Michigan State Police in June 2014 as a member of the 127th Trooper Recruit School. Following his graduation from the academy, he received his first assignment as a trooper at the St. Ignace Post.

Morrison later transitioned into a role as a detective trooper with the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team. In this position, he spent several years investigating illegal drug activity throughout the Upper Peninsula region.Beyond his investigative work, Morrison has taken on specialized responsibilities within the department. He has served as a field training officer and a defensive tactics instructor, providing guidance and training to other members of the state police.
