CHARLEVOIX — Charlevoix Circle of Arts will open an exhibit featuring abstract watercolor works by artist Rocco Pisto from March 5 through April 11, 2026.
The exhibition, “The Work of Rocco Pisto: Modern Expressionism, Spontaneity and Abstraction in Watercolor,” will include more than 40 original works. Charlevoix Circle of Arts said Pisto has more than 50 years of experience as an artist and has dedicated his career primarily to abstract watercolor painting.
An opening reception is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 5, with light refreshments. The public is invited to attend.
Pisto credits Eastern Michigan University professors for inspiring his watercolor passion.
Pisto is a renowned watercolor artist, attributes his lifelong passion for the medium to his influential instructors at Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan.
His work, characterized by abstract elements of nature, employs both traditional and non-traditional techniques to produce unique and spontaneous pieces.
Pisto’s approach encourages experimentation and embraces unexpected outcomes, often leading to what he describes as ‘magical accidents.’ He holds the title of President Emeritus of the Michigan Water Color Society.
Charlevoix Circle of Arts said Pisto is president emeritus of the Michigan Watercolor Society after more than a decade of leadership and service on its board in various roles.
Pisto also will lead a two-day Watercolor Abstract Workshop on April 10 and 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. The workshop is open to participants of all skill levels. Pre-registration is required.
Charlevoix Circle of Arts is located at 109 Clinton St. in downtown Charlevoix. The Circle is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
