WEXFORD COUNTY — Michigan State Police troopers from the Cadillac Post arrested two people following a traffic stop in Wexford Township in August 2025 that led to methamphetamine-related charges.

Troopers stopped a vehicle on N. 11 Road on Aug. 27, 2025, for a traffic violation.

During the roadside investigation, the driver, 43-year-old Brandi Burkett of Mesick, concealed suspected methamphetamine in her clothing and later surrendered it at troopers’ request, according to police.

Troopers also learned that the passenger, 39-year-old John Huntley of Copemish, initially provided a false name in an attempt to hide outstanding warrants from Grand Traverse and Benzie counties. Using a department-issued fingerprint scanner, troopers positively identified Huntley.

Police said Huntley was also found to have concealed suspected methamphetamine on his person. He was taken into custody and lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail on his warrants. Burkett was released pending laboratory analysis.

A report was submitted to the Wexford County Prosecutor’s Office for review, and charges were later authorized against both individuals.

Burkett was arraigned Feb. 19 in 88th District Court in Wexford County on one count of possession of methamphetamine. She was given a $5,000 cash or surety bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 3 at 10:30 a.m.
