In 2025, USA Today recognized BOYNE Golf as No. 1 among the 10BEST Golf Destinations in the U.S. for a golf getaway. The Highlands was also ranked No. 2 in the 10BEST Golf Resort category.
“We are very excited to once again be nominated by USA Today 10BEST, and to have the opportunity to be recognized nationally alongside some of the best golf destinations in the country is an honor,” said Josh Richter, PGA, senior vice president of golf operations for BOYNE Golf. Richter cited recent investments in golf courses and lodging renovations, along with the work of BOYNE Golf teams in golf operations, agronomy, lodging and food and beverage.
BOYNE Golf spans resorts at Bay Harbor, The Highlands and Boyne Mountain. Its flagship destination includes the Inn at Bay Harbor and Bay Harbor Golf Club, a luxury retreat built on the site of a historic limestone quarry and cement factory along Lake Michigan.

Designed by Arthur Hills, Bay Harbor Golf Club has 27 holes, including the Links/Quarry and Preserve courses. Crooked Tree Golf Club is located nearby and overlooks Little Traverse Bay.
The Highlands features five courses: The Heather, Arthur Hills, Donald Ross Memorial, The Moor and the Doon Brae Par 3 course, along with the Back Yaird Putting Course. At Boyne Mountain, BOYNE Golf includes the Monument and Alpine courses and lodging options including the Mountain Grand Lodge and Chalet Edelweiss.
Everett Kircher founded Boyne Resorts in 1947 after acquiring 40 acres of land with a modest ski hill for $1, according to the release. A former Michigan state senator said while accepting $1 from Kircher for the land, “Anybody damn fool enough to want to build a ski hill, well … I’ll give you this property.”
BOYNE Golf has been recognized as one of North America’s “Premier Resorts” (Gold) by GOLF Magazine. The Highlands at Harbor Springs was rated the No. 1 Golf Resort for Value by Golf.com.
Boyne Mountain also includes the Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark, junior golf camps and kid golf programs, according to the release. Golf Digest named Boyne Mountain one of its “Top 10 Destinations for Family Golf Trips.”
