BIG RAPIDS — The Osceola and Mecosta County Democratic Parties will host a Farmers Forum at Ferris State University to discuss issues facing rural communities and agricultural producers on March 7.

The forum is the second in a series of public events focused on challenges in rural communities, including rising costs, volatile markets and prices and supply chain issues.

Michigan farmers produce more than 300 commodities that contribute over $125 billion to the state’s economy, with about 95 percent of farms being family-owned and employing nearly a million people.

Organizers said the event will provide farmers with an opportunity to raise concerns and discuss changes they believe are needed to help them prosper.

The forum will include federal and state officials and candidates and will be moderated by members of the Michigan Farm Bureau.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 7 at the David Eisler Center, Ballroom A, 805 Campus Drive, at Ferris State University.

Sandwich wraps, snacks and coffee will be provided.
