71-year-old man sentenced to 22-50 years for sexual assaults dating back to early 2000s

BEULAH — A 71-year-old man was sentenced Feb. 17 to 22-50 years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct stemming from alleged assaults dating back to the early 2000s.

The Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office said in a Feb. 20 news release that it learned in May 2025 of alleged sexual assaults that took place over a period of years from 2003-2017.

The Michigan State Police took over the investigation after it was learned the alleged assaults occurred in several locations throughout Michigan.

The investigation resulted in Eric Harris being charged in Benzie County with three counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree for crimes that occurred between 2003 and 2005.

Harris pleaded guilty to one count of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree on Jan. 6. He was sentenced in the 19th Circuit Court to 22-50 years in prison.
