CLARE COUNTY — Three illegal immigrants were arrested in Surrey Township after a traffic stop led to the discovery of fentanyl and fraudulent identification. The stop occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. on M-115 near Silver Lake Drive.

A deputy stopped a 2013 black Dodge Charger for speeding before identifying the occupants as David Thomas Gallego Lopez, 23, Josue Miguel-Raymundo Marcos, 21 and Miguel Isaias Raymundo Tum, 19. All three men were charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of forged identification.

During the traffic stop, the three individuals presented deputies with forged International Driver’s Licenses. After investigators confirmed the documents were fraudulent, the men were taken into custody. A search of the vehicle following the arrest revealed a personal-use amount of a white powder. Field tests conducted by deputies confirmed the substance was fentanyl.

All three suspects face identical charges including possession of forged, altered or false identification. They were also charged with possession of a controlled substance less than 25 grams.

The investigation into the men’s backgrounds revealed they are in the United States illegally. Authorities believe the three individuals are originally from Guatemala. Following this determination, the sheriff’s office contacted federal officials regarding their status.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed detainers on Lopez, Marcos and Tum. They remain in custody following the charges in Surrey Township.
