TRAVERSE CITY — A probable cause hearing for alleged shooting suspect Hunter Vanderwall scheduled for Feb. 17 has been canceled, according to new court information.

Vanderwall was arrested and charged following the fatal shooting of a Traverse City parking services employee, Larry Boyd, inside the Larry C. Hardy Parking Deck.

The 18-year-old is facing three counts: felony murder; assaulting a police officer; and breaking and entering a vehicle to steal property valued at less than $200.

The prosecutor’s office said Larry Boyd IV was killed at about 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 15, 2025 while working inside the downtown structure.

A witness reported in November after the shooting they saw two masked people opening an unlocked vehicle and stealing a bag of Lego sets.

Vanderwall was reportedly seen fleeing with the bag of stolen property after the shooting before being arrested.

A few hours after Boyd’s death, the pair shot at Traverse City Police, according to the prosecutor’s office. An officer was struck by a bullet but was uninjured after his vest prevented serious injury.

The charges against both shooting suspects were authorized Nov. 17 in Grand Traverse County’s 86th District Court.

Vanderwall’s bond was initially denied at a Nov. 18, 2025 arraignment, and he has since been in the custody of Grand Traverse County Correctional Facility.

A rescheduled hearing date has not yet been announced by the court.

NOTE: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
