Mackinac Bridge reopened after visibility improves

UPDATE: The bridge has been reopened to traffic as of 1:38 p.m. Feb. 18.


The Mackinac Bridge Authority has closed the bridge to vehicles due to low visibility northbound & southbound on I-75.

9&10 News will update drivers when the bridge has reopened to travel.

Motorists are being instructed to reduce their speed to 20 miles per hour as they approach the bridge and be prepared to stop. Bridge personnel are stationed at both ends of the structure to provide instructions.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority is monitoring conditions at various points along the structure. When conditions improve, the bridge will be reopened to traffic. If you are planning to travel to the Straits area, please tune to AM radio 530 or 1610 for updates.

Current Conditions & Short-Term Forecast:

  • Conditions: Heavy snow and blizzard-like conditions are occurring.
  • Temperature: Currently 27°F, but it feels like 10°F due to the wind chill.
  • Wind: Sustained winds are around 30-31 mph from the east, with gusts reaching 49 mph.
  • Alerts: A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 10 p.m. tonight.
