OSCODA COUNTY — Deputies from the Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office assisted Michigan State Police STING Narcotics with a traffic stop involving suspected narcotics trafficking on Dec. 10, 2025, in Mio.

According to Sheriff Taylor D. Kann, deputy O’Brien deployed K-9 Draco to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle, and the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics inside.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of about 7.5 grams of fentanyl.

The vehicle was operated by Wendy June Laney of Mio, according to Kann. The registered owner of the vehicle, Ranae Amber Nolan of Mio, was a passenger at the time of the stop.

Following further investigation, MSP STING formally requested charges against both individuals, Kann reported.

Laney and Nolan were each charged with controlled substance — delivery/manufacture (cocaine/heroin or another narcotic) and controlled substance — possession of methamphetamine/ecstasy. Both were taken into custody on Feb. 6, 2026.

Kann commended Deputy O’Brien and K-9 Draco for their work and said the seizure underscored continued collaboration between the sheriff’s office and Michigan State Police to combat the distribution of dangerous narcotics in local communities.

Fentanyl remains one of the most lethal substances impacting families across Michigan.

NOTE: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
