
ROSCOMMON COUNTY — Michigan State Police arrested two Ishpeming men on Tuesday after a traffic stop on I-75 led to the seizure of approximately 127 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

Troopers from the Houghton Lake Post stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation in Richfield Township at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Feb. 10. During a search of the vehicle, troopers discovered the narcotics along with five rounds of ammunition and drug paraphernalia.
William Helsten, 37, was the driver of the vehicle at the time of the stop. He was arraigned Feb. 11 in the 82nd District Court on one count of delivery or manufacture of methamphetamine and one count of possession of ammunition by a prohibited person. A judge set Helsten’s bond at $150,000 cash or surety.
Dennis Heikkila, 58, was the passenger in the vehicle and was also arraigned on Feb. 11. He faces one count of delivery or manufacture of methamphetamine. Heikkila was given a $100,000 cash or surety bond.
Both men were lodged at the Roscommon County Jail without incident following the roadside investigation. According to state police, the ammunition and drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle along with the suspected narcotics.
Helsten and Heikkila are scheduled for their next court appearance on Feb. 25 at 9 a.m.
