Mesick schools explore solutions for winter transportation issues

WEXFORD COUNTY — Mesick Consolidated Schools is look to improve their bussing after having to close school because busses could not reach students.

This has resulted in the school going over their allotted snow days.

Superintendent Jack Ledford says they have talked to other schools who face similar issue, and they do two hour delays.

However, he says that does not work for the school because they normally close anyway, and delays can put parents in a bind.

Another option was having students walk to bus stops, but that didn’t work either.

Ledford says just as they started the alternative, the weather turned to freezing temperatures.

He says this made walking to those centralized bus stops unsafe, and it wasn’t something they wanted to start doing.

The route is only an issue during the winter, however, the school is still working with bus drivers on what the best way could be to handle the routes, safely and without having to close school.
