CLARE — MyMichigan Medical Center Clare opened its new $40 million expansion on Feb. 2, 2026, introducing a 51,000-square-foot facility to the community. The project includes a larger Emergency Department, 16 private patient rooms and an updated imaging area.
The medical center broke ground on the expansion in July 2024. The new facilities were designed to increase patient comfort and ensure the Clare community has access to high-quality medical services and modern technology.
The new Emergency Department includes 14 fully private treatment rooms and a dedicated ambulance entrance. This entrance provides a direct connection to two large trauma bays. The department also features a covered canopy for curbside drop-off and a naturally lit lobby. Patients have 24-hour access to a laboratory draw station located within the department.
The Imaging Department expansion adds a new MRI and CT scanner to the facility. These imaging services are now available to the community 24 hours a day. On the second floor of the medical center, 16 new private patient rooms were created to provide a quiet environment for recovery.
Chuck Sherwin serves as the market president for MyMichigan Medical Centers in Alma, Clare, Midland and Mt. Pleasant. Sherwin described the opening as a significant step for the region. “Delivering these improvements to our patients and their families is a major milestone for all those involved in the project, but it’s bigger than that. It marks a transformative moment for local health care,” Sherwin said.
The project received financial support from local businesses and individuals. Becky Church is the director of the MyMichigan Health Foundation. She noted that the organization is still accepting contributions for the facility. “We are grateful for the support we’ve received from area business, organizations and individuals who have donated to the future of health care in Clare,” Church said.
MyMichigan Health is a non-profit health system based in Midland that serves 26 counties. The organization employs more than 13,200 people and operates medical centers in several cities, including Alpena, Gladwin and Sault Ste. Marie. In fiscal year 2025, the health system provided $243 million in community benefits.
Construction will now shift to the second phase of the project. This phase will include the creation of a new main entrance and lobby. Plans for this stage also include an expansion of the Shamrock Patch Gift Shop, the addition of first-floor dining and improvements to the exterior plaza and wayfinding systems.
