TRAVERSE CITY — Munson Health care announced Friday that Joe Hurshe is no longer president of Munson Medical Center, effective immediately. Kathy LaRaia has been named interim president of the Traverse City facility while the organization begins a search for a permanent leader.
The leadership change follows a period of transition within the health care industry and at Munson since the global pandemic. Laura Glenn, chief operating officer for Munson Health care, said the appointment of an interim president is intended to provide continuity for the organization and the community.
Hurshe had served as the president of the medical center for the past two years. Glenn, chief operating officer for Munson Health care, thanked Hurshe for his time with the organization. “Munson Medical Center Hurshe is no longer with the organization, effective today. We extend our gratitude to Joe for the contributions he has made to Munson Health care over the last two years,” Glenn said.
LaRaia, who currently serves as the vice president of oncology and professional services at Munson Health care, will manage the facility during the transition. Glenn described LaRaia as a proven and results-driven leader.
“LaRaia, Vice President of Oncology & Professional Services at Munson Health care, will step into the role of Interim President while we conduct a thorough search for our next leader at the medical center. Kathy is a positive, proven, results-driven leader who will provide continuity throughout this transition,” Glenn said.
Glenn acknowledged that the health care sector has faced significant challenges and changes since the start of the global pandemic. Despite these shifts, she said the medical center remains focused on its primary mission in Traverse City. “I want to acknowledge there has been a lot of change in the health care industry and at Munson since the global pandemic. However, our commitment to our patients and communities hasn’t changed,” Glenn said. “I am confident our dedicated team will continue to deliver quality, compassionate care at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City under Kathy’s leadership.”
Munson Health care will conduct a thorough search for a permanent president to lead the medical center.
