Suttons Bay Schools start demolition of old middle school under $18 million bond

SUTTONS BAY — Suttons Bay Public Schools held a community forum Thursday night to answer an question people had about what they are doing with an $18 million bond.

The main focus of the bond is tearing down the old middle school building, which has sat empty for 15 years.

During the forum, they shared that they have already begun demolition on the old middle school gym.

The school also has plans to add things to the district, like relocating field, updating the football stadium, and new corridors.

Superintendent Casey Petz says that while there were areas of the school connected by corridors, many buildings were not, leaving students and staff to walk in the elements.

He adds that they received a lot of positive feedback from the community regarding the plans.

The districts plans for the inside work to last 4-6 weeks, with the work outside starting during spring break and have all projects complete by December of 2027
