Wexford County — The Wexford Missaukee Intermediate School District is giving the all clear when it comes to their drinking water after the presence of Pfas was discovered .
Nine and ten news first reported on the Pfas concerns in the district’s drinking water back in September of 2024.
Superintendent Kim Blaszak said they’ve now been given the go-ahead by the state to resume drinking the water in all of their buildings.
This follows several rounds of testing and putting in bottle filling stations and water coolers to filter drinking water from existing fountains.
They also transitioned last fall from a private well to the Haring Township municipal water system with the help of a $3 million grant.
Blaszak said the work would not have been possible without that grant.
“It is a large investment. And it was very helpful to be able to work with Herring Township because when we’re doing, taking money outside of the ISD, that’s money that we’re taking away from students,” said Blaszak.
Filters were also added to all of the ice makers in the ISD building.
