TRAVERSE CITY — Francesca’s, a Houston-based women’s boutique chain, is preparing to close its Traverse City store as the retailer moves to shutter all locations nationwide, according to a report from Women’s Wear Daily.
The Traverse City Francesca’s location is in the Grand Traverse Mall, 3200 west South Airport Road.

The company has not publicly commented on the closure news, the report said. A customer service representative told Women’s Wear Daily the retailer was “liquidating our inventory and closing soon.”
The Traverse City closure is part of a broader shutdown that will affect Francesca’s Michigan stores in Byron Center, Clinton Township, Grandville, Grand Rapids, Holland, Howell, Novi, Okemos, Portage, Rochester Hills and Traverse City.
The move comes six years after Francesca’s filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and sought a sale amid financial challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to USA TODAY. In 2020, the company said it would close 140 stores, then filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with plans to sell the business, including stores, USA TODAY reported.
“We are confident that we will emerge from this process as a stronger company poised to drive growth by exploring new brand avenues, expanding our ecommerce channels, and providing our customers with the latest fashion options and treasure hunt experiences they know and love us for,” CEO Andrew Clarke said at the time.
Francesca’s is a Houston-based American women’s boutique chain that sells apparel, accessories and gifts, according to its website.
The company was founded in 1999 and expanded to over 450 stores across more than 45 states.
