100+ Women Who Care to award $10,000 donation to local nonprofit

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse and Leelanau County Chapter of 100+ Women Who Care will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Traverse City Golf and Country Club to award a $10,000 donation to a local nonprofit.

According to a Jan. 19 news release, the quarterly meeting follows a nomination and voting format. Members nominate local nonprofits at check-in and three organizations are randomly selected to present.

The members who nominated those nonprofits briefly explain why their organizations should receive support, then attendees vote. The nonprofit receiving the most votes is awarded the full donation.

While votes are counted, Jubilee House, an outreach ministry of Grace Episcopal Church and the group’s most recent recipient, is scheduled to share an update on how the previous donation benefited its organization and the community it serves.

Organizers said the chapter has contributed more than $500,000 to local organizations and helped raise awareness about dozens of causes across the region.

The group does not charge membership dues, but members commit to donating $100 per quarter for one year. Organizers said 100% of each member’s contribution goes directly to the selected nonprofit.

100+ Women Who Care began in Jackson in 2006 and has expanded into an international movement, organizers said.

Traverse City Golf and Country Club, 1725 S. Union St., donates meeting space to the group each quarter. Organizers said attendees do not need to be Country Club members.
