SAULT STE. MARIE — The U. S. Coastguard will temporarily close the waters between St. Ignace and Mackinac Island on Lake Huron beginning at 1PM on January 20, 2026.
The closure, ordered by the Captain of the Port Northern Great Lakes under federal regulations, is intended to support the growth of the seasonal ice bridge to Mackinac Island.
Officials are reminding recreational ice users to carefully plan activities, use caution, and stay clear of active shipping channels.
