$1.2M parking repair project could begin in 2026, completion expected by October

Repairs focus on Hardy and Old Town parking structures

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Commission is set to approve an agreement with Restore Consulting, LLC for up to $50,000 to provide engineering consulting services for the repair of the Hardy and Old Town Parking Structures.

The agreement was initiated by Nicole VanNess, Parking and Mobility Director and is designed to carry out medium-priority repairs identified in a previous five-year assessment conducted by Restore Consulting. This assessment categorized repairs into high, medium and low priority items, ensuring that necessary structural work is addressed in a timely manner.

The estimated total repair costs amount to $678,000 for the Hardy Parking Structure and $582,000 for the Old Town Parking Structure. These figures underscore the importance of the agreement to maintain the structural integrity of these critical city facilities.

The timeline for the project is structured to ensure prompt action on repairs. Bid packages are set to be prepared by February 2026, submissions will be due by March 23, 2026, with a City Commission meeting scheduled for April 20, 2026, to award the contract and substantial completion of the project is expected by October 2026.Restore Consulting, LLC was chosen due to their previous experience with the city, completing the initial assessment efficiently and on schedule.

Following the upcoming bids and City Commission meeting Tuesday, Jan. 20, the repair project will officially begin, aiming for a completion date in October 2026. This work is crucial for prolonging the usable life of the Hardy and Old Town Parking Structures.
