Investigation continues in murder case of Rebecca Park and her baby

WEXFORD COUNTY — The investigation into Rebecca Park’s murder continued today with the biological mother of Rebecca Park, Cortney Bartholomew, along with her husband Bradley Bartholomew back in Wexford County District Court Tuesday morning for a probable cause hearing.

They are charged with the murder of the 22 year-old and her unborn baby. Park was last seen Nov. 3, pregnant at 38 weeks and was later discovered in the Manistee National Forest not far from where she was last reported seen right before Thanksgiving on Nov. 25.

At that time her mother had said she left in an unidentified vehicle with someone she didn’t know and hadn’t been seen since but soon after her body was found, Cortney and Bradley were arrested and charged with her murder, arraigned on Dec. 2 with the attorney general’s office picking up the case.

Both defendants were in person for the hearing.

The defendants’ lawyers complained accusing the attorney general’s office of holding discovery hostage, saying they haven’t received anything besides the probable cause affidavit.

They asked the courts to dismiss the case or consider bond for the defendants that have been in custody since their arrest more than a month ago, stating that it’s past the 30 days that the hearing was adjourned to allow discovery to be turned over.

The prosecutor did not agree with that assessment saying that there probably were pieces of discovery out there but said it was normal and they had enough probable cause to hold people even while the investigation is ongoing.

The judge ordered a show cause hearing for 10 a.m. Jan. 30. He also denied bond for the two.

Kimberly Park, Rebecca Park’s biological sister, was slated to be in court on Wednesday for her probable cause hearing but that has been postponed until 2 p.m. on Feb. 9.

She is accused of filing a false police report in regards to the investigation into Rebecca Park and lying to a police officer.
