CADILLAC — An officer involved shooting occurred on Jan. 2, 2026, in the City of Cadillac, following a traffic stop of a suspected stolen vehicle is now linked to a home invasion and robbery in Wexford County.
At approximately 4:25 p.m., a Cadillac Police Department officer stopped a vehicle that had reportedly been stolen during an earlier home invasion in Wexford County.
During the stop, the driver pointed a handgun at the officer, prompting the officer to discharge his weapon, resulting in the driver’s death.
The driver, an adult male, was declared dead after being transported to a local hospital. A female passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody during the incident and is being questioned as part of the investigation.
The home invasion and robbery incident coincided with the shooting; investigators from the Wexford County Sheriff’s Office found a deceased adult male at the scene of the home invasion. The deceased male is believed to be connected to the shooting.
The Michigan State Police is spearheading the investigations into both the officer involved shooting and the home invasion. This collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies aims to gather further details about the events.
Currently, there are no additional suspects believed to be at large following the incident.
