CHEBOYGAN COUNTY — One person died after a head-on crash Monday afternoon on M-68 near Riverbend Street in Forest Township, according to Michigan State Police.
Per a Dec. 30 news release, troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post responded at about 2:15 p.m. Dec. 29 to the crash, police said.
A passenger van driven by a 55-year-old woman from Onaway was traveling east on M-68 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound delivery van, police said.
The delivery van’s driver, a 45-year-old man from Mancelona, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The woman was taken to the hospital where she later died of injuries sustained in the crash, police said.
Police said it is believed the drivers were experiencing whiteout conditions at the time of the crash. Investigators also believe the woman was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
Troopers were assisted by the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, Forest Township Fire Department, Onaway Fire Department, Onaway Area Ambulance and Indian River Life Support, police said.
